Popocatepetl Volcano spews ash cloud over Gulf of Mexico
This is the spectacular moment the Popocatepetl volcano spewed an ash cloud in Mexico.
Footage shows the volcano sending a colossal ash cloud 9.1km (30,000ft) above sea level, stretching 833km (517 miles) into the Gulf of Mexico on October 25.
The latest explosion marks a dramatic escalation in activity since Thursday, with continuous emissions of ash and sulfur dioxide.
An explosive tremor episode on October 20 launched a gas-and-ash plume 2km (6,562ft) high, scattering incandescent material around the crater.
Ashfall has already coated communities in Mexico and Morelos, including Ozumba, Tlalmanalco, and Tlayacapan.
Popocatepetl, which means 'smoking mountain' in the Aztec Nahuatl language, is the second-highest peak in Mexico and one of the country's most famous volcanoes, known for its frequent and violent eruptions.
