Recently in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, a black sedan waiting for a parking spot near Sanwan Park's lot entrance suddenly accelerated, hitting three cars and four pedestrians in just six seconds, creating a chaotic scene.

Footage from around 11 a.m. shows Guo, the driver, waiting at the parking entrance on Daxue South Road in Yangzhou’s Guangling District. Suddenly, the vehicle surged forward, startling everyone inside. As the car accelerated into the lot, it first struck a white sedan owned by Mr. Zhang, causing the white car to lose control and hit Zhang, his family of four, and a small bus behind them. The car then collided with another sedan and a tree before finally stopping. Within six seconds, Guo’s car had hit three vehicles and four pedestrians.

After the incident, Guo immediately called 110 and an ambulance. Medical assessments revealed that all four members of Zhang’s family suffered injuries, with Zhang’s granddaughter seriously hurt. The young girl was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed internal bleeding, requiring spleen removal surgery.

Guo explained that while waiting at the entrance, he hadn’t turned off the car or shifted to park; the gear remained in drive. The vehicle, purchased last year, featured an auto-hold function allowing the car to stay stationary without shifting gears or holding the brake. Auto-hold temporarily holds the wheels without fully locking them and releases when the accelerator is pressed.

At the time of the accident, Guo recalled his children playing in the car. In his attempt to stop them, he accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to surge forward. Traffic authorities later determined that the accident was due entirely to Guo’s error, holding him fully responsible.
