A python was removed from a car's engine in Thailand.

The 13ft (4 metres) snake was spotted by owner Mukmanee Phanim, 37, under her vehicle when she went out to buy food in Samut Songkhram, Thailand, on October 22.

Footage shows the serpent coiled on top of the Honda vehicle engine as a volunteer was extracting it. He dragged it out using a hook while a colleague pushed open the bonnet for him.

Mukmanee said: 'I went out for a meal earlier that day. I was trying to go to the store to get drinks when I saw it.

'I used my phone's flashlight to check under the car when I saw it moved but it was gone. It entered my car and did not know what to do.

'I stayed outside the house to watch the car until the rescuers arrived to help me.'

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.

Due to its wide distribution, it is classified as 'Least Concern' on the IUCN Red List. However, it is also recognised as a protected species under Thailand's Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act.
