This is the heroic moment a newborn puppy is saved by garbage men who found it among trash during dumpster unloading.

Footage shows the pooch lying among piles of garbage when a worker spotted it and wrapped it in a blanket in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on October 24.

He can be seen bringing the rescued little pup inside the truck to warm up and leaving it with the driver, who occasionally checks on it to make sure it is okay.

The crew later reported that the canine was taken to an animal shelter, where one of the workers adopted it.

The driver, Artem, said: 'A new family was found for the puppy. Our colleague took him. The puppy practically remained in our big family, we will see him again big, healthy and happy.'

Polina Pichkur, an employee of Resurs-ATE, the waste management company, said that three domestic animals have been rescued from garbage containers since the beginning of the year.

Pichkur said: 'This is the third time this year that we have had to look for kind people, and when we see the consequences of cruelty to animals at work.'
