A snake caught in a car engine slithered around a fireman's crotch as it tried to escape.

The rat snake was spotted hiding under the hood of a resident's vehicle before volunteers from Siam Rayong Rescue Team was called in Rayong province, Thailand on October 24.

Footage shows team member Pornchai Chiangam pulling the serpent with his bare hands. He carefully dragged it out and held its tail as he tried to secure it without safety gear.

The reptile desperately tried to escape the grip of Pornchai, slinking around his legs and crotch before the volunteer finally caught its neck.

Pornchai said: 'I tried to use my legs to keep it from escaping, but it slipped off. It was safe, and I was not hurt.'

The rescue team later released the snake back into the wild.

Thailand's climate, geography, and diverse ecosystems create a suitable environment for many snake species. The country has various habitats, such as forests, wetlands, mountains, and coastal areas, ideal for snakes to thrive.
