This is the amusing moment a wildlife staff member releases a bat from his palm.

Footage by Colorado Parks and Wildlife shows the nocturnal creature gently flying away from the hand of the man who freed it on October 28.

In a statement, the agency addressed the popular myth that 'bats are flying mice.'

While both are mammals, they share little else in common. The consrvationists said that bats are more closely related to deer and moose than to mice.

The wildlife experts further emphasized that portraying bats as pests is misleading, as these remarkable animals play a vital role in the ecosystem.

Authorities said that a single little brown bat can consume thousands of insects, including pesky mosquitoes, each night, making them invaluable allies in natural pest control.
