Sheep flock circles truck in bizarre hypnotic ritual on Chinese highway
On October 24, on a highway in Altay, Xinjiang, a flock of sheep was seen circling a large truck non-stop. This unusual scene was recorded by Mr. Liu, a driver in a following vehicle.
In the video, the sheep are tightly gathered around the truck, moving in circles as if performing some kind of mysterious ritual. Mr. Liu reported that the behavior only stopped when the shepherd arrived to intervene, with the entire episode lasting around ten minutes.
Animal behavior experts suggest that this phenomenon could be an example of the "herd effect," where sheep, reacting to the truck in some way, mimic each other’s actions, following the lead of the front-most individuals.
