SOUNDBITE 1 (English): AXEL JENKINS, Teacher of Cassia Primary School, Port Hedland
"About 90 percent of this classroom, their parents work in the mines. So I think it's really important that students know who the largest trade partners are as well."

Port Hedland is managed by the Pilbara. Port Authority of Australia.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): SAMUEL MCSKIMMING, CEO of Pilbara Port Authority
"Port Hedland wouldn't exist in the way it exists today if it weren't for China. Port Hedland and China are deeply deeply linked. Port Headland has grown from exporting maybe 100 million tonnes 20 years ago to 560 million tonnes today. And that is because Port Headland is so closely linked to the phenomenal and amazing growth of China in the last 20 years."

At the Hebb Elliot Terminal in Port Hedland, iron ore is constantly delivered on automated conveyor belts.

An engineer here said that the iron ore can reach a Chinese port two weeks after the ship set sail.

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ROGER COOK, Premier of Western Australia
"Through that great partnership that we have with China, we've been able to significantly boost Western Australia's economy. And we are in Western Australia, the engine room of Australia's economy. So the exports of iron ore to China really underpin the important opportunities we have in economic growth."
