A Chinese automobile manufacturer and brand has completed successful tests of its flying car.

The vehicle, which has been successfully tested over a distance of 80 kilometres (50 miles), was displayed at the Chery Global Innovation Conference in Wuhu, Anhui, China, on October 18.

Footage shows the unmanned aircraft made by the firm Chery soaring through the air.

Local reports said that the three-body composite wing flying car does not have a steering wheel or accelerator and supports unmanned driving in two modes - flying and driving. It can also detect the transition between these modes when switching from land to air.

China is in a tech 'arms race' with the West, including Elon Musk in Texas, for the development of robots.

The rivalry between Musk and companies in China is rooted in the broader competition for leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and automation, fields crucial to the future of manufacturing, consumer technology, and space exploration.

Both Musk and several Chinese tech giants are vying to shape these industries.
