Today, São Paulo was the scene of a large demonstration against the privatization of public schools, which is scheduled to take place through an auction on the Stock Exchange. Thousands of people, including teachers, students and community members, took to the streets of the city to express their discontent with the measure. The protesters argue that privatization will lead to the exclusion of low-income students and the deterioration of the quality of public education. They also point out that the initiative favors private interests over the common good. The government, in turn, argues that privatization is necessary to modernize the education system and increase efficiency.
