A hero American Bully dog saved its pensioner neighbour from a house fire in Thailand.

The pet pooch named Kha Moo woke up his owner Thanida Noksiri, 29, when a blaze broke out at the home of their neighbour, Chalor Taisakul, 71, in Samut Prakan province, early morning on October 30.

Knowing the older woman had hearing problems, Thanida rushed over to wake her up, and they escaped through the window of the two-storey wood and concrete house.

Police Major Ratthapong Srinok of the Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station said the fire was reported at 2:20 am.

Three firetrucks were dispatched to extinguish the flames. Authorities said the fire was put out after an hour and had gutted Chalor's house.

The shaken but uninjured resident said: 'At that time, I was sleeping on the second floor. I smelled smoke, so I went down to look downstairs and there was already smoke everywhere. I climbed out the window with the help of my neighbours who came for me.'

She said she was unsure what caused the fire, as only the fridge was plugged in at her home.

Dog owner Thanida said she owned seven dogs that all started barking when Kha Moo did.

She said: 'I checked outside to see what they were barking at, and saw Chalor's house in flames. I tried to put out the fire myself but it had already grown too large. I knew she lived alone so I immediately called for the other neighbours for help.'

Another resident, Arun Atthaworakun, 56, said he woke up to see the house across the street engulfed in flames.

He said: 'There were loud crackling noises as the fire ate through the house. I don't think it was caused by lightning because there was only a light drizzle at the time.'

Police Major Ratthapong said: 'We inspected the scene, took photos, and recorded evidence. However, we will contact forensic police to inspect the scene again to determine the cause of the fire.'

House fires in Thailand are relatively common due to aging electrical infrastructure, extensive use of wood in home construction, and regional heatwaves that can exacerbate fire risks. Rapid fire response can also be hampered in densely packed neighbourhoods where narrow streets can delay firefighting efforts.
