On October 28, 2024, a fountain several stories high erupted from underground in the Kommunarka settlement of New Moscow, Russia, on Bachurinskaya Street, following a planned blowdown of a new gas pipeline section. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a bang before the fountain appeared. The Moscow branch of JSC Gazprom Gas Distribution stated that the event was routine and planned in advance, emphasizing that the grey-brown stream observed was not water but a result of the gas pipeline purging.
