A resident of Puri district of Odisha saw a 4 ft long yellowish snake in his backyard. The snake was trapped in an abandoned plastic toy and was unable to move properly.

He called Snake Helpline and a volunteer Susant Behera rescued the snake but was not able to cut open the toy and free it.

The snake was taken to the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry where Dr. Indramani Nath conducted X-ray which ruled out any internal injury in the snake's body. The plastic toy was then cut opened from the snake's body with the help of surgical scissors.

Prof. Nath said "The cobra had been trapped for at least 10 days. It was unable to eat and would have died if we had not treated it.

Subhendu Mallik, General Secretary of Snake Helpline said "This is another example of faulty solid waste management. The snake will be released after a day of observation as there is no wound on the body."
