Super Typhoon Kong-rey hits the Philippines as it moves towards Taiwan
Footage shows strong winds and heavy rain from Super Typhoon Kong-rey battering a resident's yard in Cagayan province on October 30 as it moves towards Taiwan.
Philippines state weather agency PAGASA said Kong-rey, locally known as Leon, intensified into a full-blown super typhoon on October 30.
It skirted the northern tip of the country, moving northwestward across the Philippine Sea and is forecasted to make landfall in Taiwan's eastern coast between the islands of Hualien and Taitung later today, October 31.
Taiwanese weather agency meteorologist Chu Mei-lin said: 'As the typhoon continues to move towards the northwest, almost the whole of Taiwan will be covered by the storm circle later tonight.'
The Central Weather Administration of Taiwan said Kong-rey is the largest cyclone to impact them in 27 years since 1996, prompting shut downs and evacuations.
