US: Deputy Dives into Danger to Save Fleeing Dog from Pond
Palm Coast, United States - October 26, 2024 A Flagler County Sheriff's deputy bravely plunged into a pond in Palm Coast to rescue a dog named Elroy, who was desperately trying to escape the scene. The dramatic rescue unfolded Saturday after deputies responded to reports of a dog in distress in the W section of Palm Coast. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a woman in a kayak attempting to corral the fleeing pup but unable to secure him. Deputy Alex Wolfe took matters into his own hands, borrowing the woman’s kayak as another deputy pushed him into the water. As he set off, Wolfe expressed concern about what might lurk beneath the surface, humorously noting, “My luck, there’s going to be an alligator in here.” Despite the potential hazards, Wolfe was determined to save Elroy, who was making a dash for freedom. The chase intensified as the deputy paddled toward the dog, who swam away. In a decisive move, Wolfe plunged into the pond, successfully grabbing the soggy pup. Emerging from the water with Elroy in his arms, Wolfe waded through the pond and delivered the wet dog to dry land. Animal control later confirmed that Elroy was wearing a training collar, and the heroic efforts of the deputies led to a heartfelt reunion between the dog and his owner.
