Wheat Ridge, United States - October 19, 2024 In a bizarre turn of events, a DUI suspect in Wheat Ridge attempted a hasty escape while already handcuffed, only to insist afterward, “I didn’t run.” The incident unfolded in mid-October when Jeffcom 911 aired a REDDI alert (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) about a driver “swerving all over” Wadsworth Blvd. from Colfax Ave. Wheat Ridge officers soon found the suspect’s car parked outside their own department, tire blown, with witnesses reporting he had “wiped out” a median nearby. Officers observed signs of intoxication as the suspect struggled to follow commands and maintain his balance. Though taken into custody, the suspect made an impulsive attempt to flee while in cuffs, an unusual choice the Wheat Ridge Police Department humorously noted: “Usually, suspects try to run before they’re in cuffs.” The suspect has been cited for DUI and obstructing a peace officer. Police thanked alert citizens for reporting the erratic driver, underscoring the community’s role in keeping roads safe.
