A quick-thinking cop stopped a woman who tried to jump off a bridge in Thailand.

Police Sergeant Chakkrit Wangkaew, a patrol officer in the Traffic Police Division, was going home on his motorcycle when he noticed the woman walking on a pedestrian path beyond the protective railings of Bhumibol Bridge 2 in Samut Prakan province at 9pm on October 29.

The woman reportedly told him she intended to jump into the water below.

Helmet cam footage shows how heroic Chakkrit sprang into action, grabbing her as she started clambering over the metal fence. He then called over the on-duty traffic police to control her.

He said: 'I asked her for the reason, and she told me that her grandchild had stolen all of her valuables to sell. She was so distressed that she wanted to jump from the bridge.'

The woman's husband later arrived and took her back home in a taxi where she recovered from the ordeal with her family.

In a similar incident, American rock legend Jon Bon Jovi talked down a woman from jumping off a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 10.
