STORYLINE:
The second drill for the Pilot Scheme for Direct Cross-boundary Ambulance Transfer in the Greater Bay Area was conducted on Thursday.
This initiative, expected to launch in November, aims to facilitate direct ambulance transfers for patients needing specialized care between designated hospitals in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Macao.
Under the scheme, specially designated cross-boundary ambulances equipped with dual license plates will enable direct "point-to-point" transfers between hospitals in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Macao.
The first phase focuses on transfers between Shenzhen and Macao's designated hospitals to public hospitals in Hong Kong.
Agreements between sending and receiving hospitals will ensure that patient safety and clinical needs remain the top priorities, supported by a mechanism to prevent service misuse.
Authorities hope this cross-boundary mechanism will allow for faster, safer, and more efficient emergency responses, marking a step toward a more integrated healthcare system in the GBA.
