Airport customs in northern India seize gold, electronics from passenger arriving from London
Customs officers at an International Airport in northern India’s Delhi arrested a male passenger after discovering gold and high-end electronics concealed in his baggage upon his arrival from London.
The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), Terminal-3, New Delhi on October 28.
Visuals showed at the bustling Indira Gandhi International Airport, customs officers surrounded a male passenger as they removed a thick gold kada from his wrist. The shiny piece gleamed under the airport lights, drawing the attention of nearby travelers. With focused expressions, the officers examined the kada closely, weighing it meticulously on a portable scale. The atmosphere was tense yet professional, as the passenger stood nervously, aware that the scrutiny of his possessions had just intensified in this busy terminal.
Profiling led the officers to conduct a thorough examination of the passenger's baggage, which resulted in the shocking discovery of a gold bangle weighing approximately 710 grams, valued at around ₹51,56,890.
In addition to the gold, the passenger was found with two iPhone 16 Pro devices, with a combined value of approximately ₹3,39,800. The recovered gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, while the passenger was arrested in accordance with Section 104 of the same act.
This case highlights the continued vigilance of airport customs in combating smuggling activities and ensuring compliance with Indian laws.
