All Blacks legend Zinzan Brooke performs a rousing Haka in a pub - after England star Joe Marler said the iconic dance should be 'binned'.

The World Cup winner, 59, started off by saying he and his friends had been having a "session" at the Louis Marchesi pub in Norwich."

Rugby royalty Brooke then mentioned prop Marler's comments, which were made ahead of Saturday's fixture between the All Blacks and England at Twickenham.

Marler, 34, who has been ruled out of England's squad for the clash, posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying: "The Haka needs binning. It's ridiculous."

"It's only good when teams actually front it with some sort of reply. Like the league boys did last week."

Brooke, who played in the New Zealand team that won the first ever Rugby World Cup in 1987, told the lucky pub crowd Marler had taken an "exception" to "what we think is right"."

The Haka is a ceremonial dance in Māori culture that the New Zealand rugby team perform before matches to intimidate their opponents.

Rugby fan Cameron Phillips, who took the footage on Wednesday night, said he and his friends couldn't believe that Brooke, a former number eight, was in their local.

The 53-year-old said Brooke had seemed "riled" by Marler's comments."

"Zinzan Brooke was the greatest player in the world for about ten years," dad-of-two Mr Phillips said."

"We were in the pub last night and a group of Kiwis came in. We recognised one of them as Brooke."

"He was visiting a friend in Norfolk and asked, ‘Can I perform the Haka?"

"He stands up and makes a speech about 1995 and Jonah Lomu, mentions Joe Marler and performs the most amazing Haka in the pub."

"He did it full-on. You could feel it in him. Zinzan did the Haka with real passion. He's a true Kiwi and Māori."

"The locals in sleepy Norwich were stunned to see one of the world's greatest-ever sportsmen perform the Haka with such gusto."

Rugby fan Mr Phillips, from Leicester, said he felt as though Brooke's pride had been hurt by Marler's comments.

"Marler had clearly touched a nerve by saying the Haka should be binned," he said."

"[Brooke]'s a staunch Māori so he was riled by Marler saying that. I think the Māori pride was hurt. That's going to get them up for it on Saturday."

"He was a nice guy. He's one of the greatest players ever to grace the game."

"So for him to do that, it's quite a statement. The Haka is a big thing for the Māoris. I think Joe Marler did it just to stir things up a bit."

"A friend of ours is a Kiwi and Zinzan sent a personal message to her. It was just such a shock to find them in the pub. It was a really amazing evening."

"He stood in front of us as though he was at Twickenham."

Mr Phillips added that Brooke and some of his fellow countrymen predicted a '"tight game" on Saturday."

Marler had deactivated his Twitter account after making his comments, before posting again saying: "Context is everything."

"Just having a bit of fun trying to spark interest in a mega rugby fixture."

"Some wild responses. Also needed to satisfy my narcissism."
