STORYLINE:
On Friday, passengers of the AIDA Mediterranean cruise ship used a robot to complete boarding procedures at Tianjin International Cruise Home Port.
Developed by the Dongjiang border inspection station, the robot is an automated patrol and monitoring system that reads passengers' ID information and captures facial photos, automatically sending the data for approval.
This enhances boarding convenience by significantly reducing wait time compared to traditional processing.
The robot has been in use at the cruise home port for one year and has also been trialed at the Pacific International Container Terminal for four months. It has saved more than 300 hours of docking time, reduced fuel consumption by nearly 70 tonnes, and cut docking and fuel costs by over 5 million yuan (about 683,000 USD) while decreasing port security personnel deployment by more than 50 percent.
