Los Angeles, United States - November 02, 2024 11/02/2024 10:55 pm (GMT-0700) FLORENCE, LOS ANGELES – CHP officers with the South Los Angeles Area office and LAFD responded to reports of a traffic collision with an overturned semi on the northbound 110 Freeway at Century Boulevard. When first responders arrived at the scene, they located a tanker truck on its side leaking gallons of fuel, as well as a Mini Cooper and a Toyota Sienna SUV. One patient was located inside a vehicle under the tanker truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 45-year-old male and a 30-year-old female were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, reported Margaret Stewart, a PIO for the LAFD. The tanker truck driver was reportedly transported to the hospital by private vehicle and had no contact with the LAFD. According to the LAFD, an estimated 8,000 gallons of aviation fuel remained in the tank and 500 to 1,000 gallons on the ground. LAFD crews assisted Caltrans with laying down an absorbent to control and mitigate the spilled fuel. Once completed, the owner of the tanker will handle the off-loading of the fuel while the LAFD provides safety oversight, according to the LAFD. The northbound 110 remained closed at Century Boulevard for an unknown duration to clear the scene of all vehicles involved in the crash.
