Shenzhen, China - October 27, 2024 A hiker experiencing an acute heart attack when trekking along southern Shenzhen City's rugged coastline was timely flown to nearby hospital for treatment by an ambulance helicopter, said officials recently. It took about only 20 minutes from the time the heli rescue team was notified of the hiker's critical condition until an ambulance helicopter flew off on its way to the coast area hard to approach via vehicle and ship due to rugged terrain and volatile sea conditions, said officials. "It took three minutes to fly to the hospital to pick up the doctors, and 16 minutes to reach the patient's location. After picking him up, we returned to the hospital in 12 minutes," said Li Xiang, head of the Heli-Eastern Medical Rescue Team Air Duty Department. The hiker was quickly diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction when aboard the helicopter, with medics onboard immediately notifying the hospital to prepare for surgery in advance. "The death rate of acute myocardial infarction is quite high. The patient was fortunate, as the rescue was in time, and his vessel was unblocked smoothly in a short time. He is now recovering well," said Cheng Fangzhou, chief physician of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of People's Hospital of Yantian District, where the patient was flown to.
