This is the moment a snake catcher removed an Indian spectacled cobra from a religious compound.

Pawan Jogpal, also known as the 'Snake Man,' captured the snake in Bhattu Kalan, India, on November 2.

Footage shows the rescuer placing the animal inside a cylindrical container.

He then exited the room and removed the trap, revealing grass at first. Upon seeing the reptile attempt to escape, he used a metal stick to stop its movement and eventually lifted its tail, immobilising it.

Pawan said: 'We received a call from Sushil Sharma at Ramlila Vatika, who told us this snake had entered their hut five times. We released the snake into the forest after capturing it.'

Several cobra species inhabit the Indian subcontinent and are revered as mythical Nagas, or snake-like beings, in Hindu mythology, symbolising death and rebirth.

But the snake's venom contains neurotoxins that target the nervous system by blocking nerve signal transmission to muscles. This blockage leads to respiratory failure, suffocation, or cardiac arrest as the diaphragm and other muscles needed for breathing become paralysed.

Depending on the species, cobra venom can kill within 30 minutes to a few hours.

Pawan Jogpal has rescued over 5,000 snakes despite being bitten multiple times, including once by a cobra, which led to a two-day hospital stay.
