STORYLINE:

The 2024 Global Forum on Hehe Culture concluded on Sunday in Taizhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province.

China's Hehe culture involves seeking common ground while reserving differences, and it means harmonious coexistence and coordinated development.

Forum attendees shared their insights on Hehe culture, believing it can help promote win-win cooperation and global development.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ERIC SOLHEIM, Former UN under-secretary-general and former executive director of UN Environment Program
"We need a more peaceful world where there's more harmony between humans, more harmony in the family, more harmony in the nation and of course, more harmony between nations, so that we avoid conflicts and wars. So indeed, Hehe culture is very inspiring, and I wish we have more of that in the world. I think the most important is that we need to embrace the understanding that all major issues over time, climate change, environment degradation, global poverty, pandemics, wars... whatever the big issue is, it's much easier to resolve if you act in harmony and if you work together. If you exchange views, if you have dialogues, if you show respect for each other, and all based on the idea of global harmony, then we will do much better in the 21st century."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ESSAM SHARAF, Former Prime Minister of Egypt
"We have to go to inclusiveness, and open-mindedness, and harmony. And this is exactly of course, as you can see, the core values of Hehe culture. It's harmony, peace, unity, and cooperation."
