A husband died when his phone fell into hot cooking oil and exploded in India.

Chandraprakash was cooking a meal at his home in Bhind City in Madhya Pradesh when the gadget slipped from his hand into the pot of bubbling oil on November 1.

The phone exploded and sent scalding oil toward Chandraprakash, who suffered severe burns. He was rushed in an ambulance to a hospital in Gwalior, but died in transit.

Grieving relatives blamed the delayed treatment on traffic congestion.

The ambulance reportedly took a detour through Tharet, Indergarh, and Dabra, adding an extra 80 kilometres to the journey due to traffic near the Sindh River.

A complaint has been filed by a relative named Akhilesh with Lahar Police Station, alleging negligence leading to the mobile explosion under Section 194 BNS.

Chandraprakash is survived by his wife, his son, 8, and his daughter, 14.

The Lahar Police Station said his death was registered as 'death due to mobile explosion'.
