China - October 22, 2024 A dramatic two-hour rescue unfolded on October 22 when two cows managed to escape from a livestock transport truck on the Zhangshi Expressway. Around 9 p.m., the truck, transporting nine calves from Zhangbei County, was en route to its destination when the driver discovered that two cows had managed to pry open the cargo door and flee. The truck was pulled over on the emergency lane, with the cows tethered to a guardrail nearby. Despite the late hour, traffic was heavy, making the task of safely returning the cows to the truck a challenge. Unable to solve the problem alone, the driver called for help, prompting a swift response from local authorities. After consulting with the highway police, road clearance, and road administration personnel, a creative solution was devised: the cows were first loaded onto a flatbed cart, then "transferred" back into the truck. The entire operation took nearly two hours to complete, with officials ensuring both the cows and the road users were safe.
