Over 40 foreign scholars and experts from renowned universities, think tanks, and research institutions gathered in China's Henan to embark on a journey tracing the origins of Chinese civilization.
The inaugural World Conference of Classics is being held from November 6 to 8 in Beijing, under the theme of "Classical Civilizations and the Modern World."
To provide participants with a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture, the conference organized the "tour of China" event from November 3 to 5, with Henan being one of the stops.
During the three-day journey through Henan, the foreign scholars explored relics from the ancient Xia and Shang dynasties, immersing themselves in the profound richness of Chinese culture.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MARY EVELYN TUCKER, Yale University
"The Shang dynasty bronzes and all kinds of oracle bones give us a sense of the antiquity of the culture, the literacy very early on, the sense of ritual, the sense of music. They elevate our understanding of ancient cultures in many, many ways."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): TOBIAS HIRSCH, Fudan University
"It's a great opportunity to get to know China better for many Western scholars. The conference is a way to get first-hand information and first-hand experience."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): CHRISTOFOROS CHARALAMPAKIS, Member of the Academy of Athens, Greece
"This conference is unique, innovative, and this is the message you brought through this conference, unite people, and understand each other, people from different countries with different ideas will come together and find, as you have shown in the past, that we combine diversity to bring unity."
