A flying umbrella seemed to have taken a life of its own Mary Poppins-style as it soared through the sky.

Footage shows the parasol being lifted by winds hundreds of feet into the air while amused locals watched from a cemetery below in Laguna, Philippines on November 1.

The object whirled while floating as gusts swept it upwards, looking like a speck among the clouds.

But when a local zoomed on his phone camera, it turned out to be a purplish sunshade.

Onlooker Jorico Ducay said: 'I thought it was a bird and used my phone camera to see it clearly, but it was a flying umbrella.'

Mary Poppins is a fictional character who first appeared in the 1934 book of the same name but became widely known through the 1964 Disney film adaptation.

She is known for her magical abilities, such as flying with her umbrella, pulling seemingly endless items from her carpet bag, and engaging in fantastical adventures.
