STORYLINE:

Malaysian businesses are seeking to unlock the huge opportunities available at the seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE), according to Ng Yih Pyng, president of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM).

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): NG YIH PYNG, President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM)
"Malaysian businesses, especially our small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are all striving to break through and expand into international markets, particularly the vast Chinese market. We hope that through this exhibition, we can help our enterprises explore foreign markets.
You can see that young businesses are eager to try new things. For example, Oriental Kopi has been very successful in Malaysia, and they came to me expressing interest in entering the Chinese market. I told them, 'In that case, you should come with me to the CIIE. You might meet potential agents and buyers there. China is too vast for you to sell everywhere, so you need to find local agents. The CIIE is the best place for this.' That's why we are bringing a lot of young people this time. We hope to accelerate the process of helping our businesses expand overseas.
Since the inception of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), ACCCIM never missed it during the past seven years.
Our booths are mainly in the agricultural and food sectors, featuring specialty products such as bird's nest, coffee, and Musang King durian."

The seventh CIIE is running in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10. This year, ACCCIM brought 18 companies with 31 booths, with the delegation growing to nearly 250 individuals.

Ng also said that the CIIE offers Malaysian companies direct access to Chinese buyers, bolstering brand visibility and fostering robust business networks. This deepens bilateral trade and economic ties, said Ng, especially in conjunction with the historic 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): NG YIH PYNG, President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM)
"China's economic growth, especially since its reform and opening-up, is something we've all witnessed. In my view, no company can afford to overlook the Chinese market in the future. There are 1.4 billion people in China. The Chinese market has immense purchasing power.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, ACCCIM has specially created booths filled with Malaysian cultural elements. It aims to convey the message of Malaysia-China friendship and cooperation, with the goal of achieving mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, and jointly reaching new heights of development."
