Hurricane Rafael slams into Cuba
Hurricane Rafael slammed into Cuba, making landfall as a powerful Category 3 storm.
Footage by David Siloetano shows a swaying palm tree as powerful winds whip through Revolution Square in Havana on November 6, around 12:45 pm.
Authorities reported that massive waves lashed the shores of the region, while strong winds and heavy rain swept through the city's historic center, scattering trees and debris.
The storm's powerful impact also caused widespread power outages across the country. Rafael brought winds of up to 185 km (115 mph) to the Caribbean island.
The National Hurricane Center has warned about life-threatening storm surges, strong winds, and flash floods, particularly in western Cuba.
This follows severe rain and widespread electricity disruptions that affected Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
Cuban authorities braced for further impacts as damage assessments continued in the storm's aftermath.
Rafael had weakened to a Category 2 hurricane and was moving northwest with sustained winds of 105 mph.
