Authorities evacuate villagers as Typhoon Yinxing approaches the Philippines
Authorities evacuated villagers amid heavy rain as Typhoon Yinxing edges closer toward the Philippines today.
Footage shows disaster response personnel fetching residents from their homes in Santa Ana in northern Cagayan province on November 7.
Santa Ana disaster management officer Marion Miranda said: 'Many people called us to request evacuation, but our teams are facing difficulties because of the strong wind and rain. We had already urged them yesterday to leave for relief centres, but some of them chose to stay because the weather wasn't as severe.'
Provincial rescue official Rueli Rapsing said at least 17,000 people have moved into shelters.
State weather agency PAGASA said Yinxing, locally known as Marce, had slowed down over the sea east of Cagayan province on November 7 morning. It was projected to make landfall in the Babuyan islands and is the third storm in less than a month to batter the Philippines' northern region.
Signal No. 4, the highest storm warning indicating 'significant to severe threat to life and property', has been raised in the provinces of Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.
The Philippines experiences frequent and intense storms especially during the typhoon season from June to November, due to its location in the Pacific typhoon belt. These storms often bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding that cause significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and communities.
