Timelapse shows eerie green sky from squid fishing boats
This is the spectacular moment eerie green lights illuminated the dark sky from squid fishing boats.
Timelapse footage shows the evening sky glowing with vibrant green hues as clouds pass by at Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi, Thailand, on October 21.
The unusual scene was caused by fishermen who use green lights to attract squid, as the creatures perceive the light as plankton or food. The optimal wavelength range for these lights is between 495 and 570 nanometers.
Dr Matipon Tangmatitham of the National Astronomical Research Institute said that the source was likely the powerful green bulbs from the squid boats reflecting off the clouds.
Some locals speculated that the phenomenon was due to the Northern Lights. However, the country cannot experience the aurora borealis due to its distance from the Earth's magnetic poles. The aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, forms in the auroral zone, an oval surrounding the Earth's north pole.
