A wild elephant wandered over to a truck in search of food.

Samnuan Dook was driving along the road when he encountered the hungry jumbo walking towards him in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand, on August 10.

Footage shows the animal ambling to the lorry, using its trunk to check the cargo bed for snacks.

Samnuan said: 'This is my morning routine. Every time I pass that road, there's a checkpoint.'

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
