Food deliveryman squeezed by truck against parked car
This is the heart-stopping moment a food deliveryman was squeezed by a truck against a parked car in Thailand.
Tharet Fangsomsri, 20, was delivering food to a customer when he swerved to avoid a parked pickup truck along the Chonburi-Ban Bueng road in Chonburi province on November 7. However, his two-wheeler was grazed by the truck driving on the adjacent lane.
CCTV footage shows the Hino 10-wheeler scraping the Honda PCX motorcycle and crushing it against a parked Toyota Revo pickup on the road shoulder.
The Mueang Chonburi Police Station said the traffic accident was reported at 11:30 am.
Tharet was taken to a hospital for injuries to both of his legs.
The truck driver Kittithat Nonsoong, 27, said: 'I was driving behind the motorcycle when the rider tried to avoid a parked car and swerved into my path. I tried to brake, but it was too late and I crashed into him.'
Ek, the pickup truck owner, said he had parked his vehicle on the roadside to deliver goods when the accident happened.
A police spokesman said: ‘We will question the drivers of both vehicles, as well as the owner of the parked car, to proceed with legal action.'
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
