On the eve of the twelfth full moon on the lunar calendar, Thais celebrate the festival of lights and water called Loi Krathong. Traditionally, it's a time to pay homage to the Goddess of Water and Rivers, and the Lord Buggha.
People nationwide float krathongs, which are small decorated boats or lanterns with a candle, in rivers and canals.
Shops and temples are beautifully decorated. Iconsiam in Bangkok at the Chao Phraya River has artistic displays of larger krathong and fantastic lighting. The festival is celebrated in some other Asian countries.
Christmas decorations complement the events.
