STORYLINE:

A delegation of Chinese publishers joined with the China Cultural Center in Malta to showcase a variety of Chinese publications at the 45th Malta Book Festival.

This year's book festival, which runs from Nov. 6 to Nov. 10 in Attard, central Malta, is themed "Binding Worlds" and features some 40 exhibitors. The event is expected to attract around 50,000 visitors.

The Chinese exhibition booth's vibrant "Chinese red" backdrop gives it a striking presence at the festival. The books on display span diverse topics including Chinese culture, history, tourism, education, science and technology, and medicine, and offer Maltese readers a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of China.

The booth provides readers with a fresh perspective on China and Chinese culture and opens a new chapter in literary exchange with Malta, China Cultural Center director Yuan Yuan told Xinhua.

Chinese publishers are participating in the Malta Book Festival for the first time, Maltese National Book Council executive chairman Mark Camilleri told Xinhua. He said that this initial participation is a promising start and a "foundation stone for future successes" in publishing sector cooperation between Malta and China.

Camilleri expressed hopes that more Chinese books will enter the Maltese market and that Maltese books will reach Chinese readers through expanded collaboration.

The festival featured the official launch of a Maltese edition of the acclaimed Chinese science fiction novel "The Three-Body Problem."

At the book launch event on Friday, attendees were captivated as excerpts from "The Three-Body Problem" were read in Chinese, Maltese, and English.

"The Three-Body Problem," written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, portrays humanity's struggle for survival against an existential threat from an alien civilization. The novel's expansive cosmic vision and profound philosophical reflections earned it the prestigious Hugo Award, one of the highest honors in the sci-fi genre.
