Folk dough figurines in China stir mixed reactions
On October 30, 2024, in Zhejiang, eastern China, a video showcased a craftsman presenting his intricately made dough figurines.
He opened a steaming cabinet, resembling an oven or steamer, revealing several small, detailed figurines made from dough. The figures were posed lying on the ground, dressed in colorful attire, with both male and female representations.
Though the artist mentioned that making dough figurines is a traditional folk custom, many Chinese netizens commented that these figurines looked more eerie than charming, evoking the "uncanny valley" effect.
