A modified vehicle that looked like a boat carrying statues of Buddhist monks cruised along a highway in Thailand.

Footage shows the vessel-shaped car without a roof travelling along a road in Chainat province on November 5.

It had pointy bows at the front and back while its body was decorated in gold-coloured symbols with red, green, and various shades as highlights.

The driver sat at the front beside a monk while at their back were eight realistic-looking figures of monks sitting before bowls.

There were also Buddha status at the front of the unique vehicle.

Onlooker Lawan Klanthong said: 'They seemed to be in a hurry. Maybe they were late for a parade.'

Buddhism is the official religion of Thailand where it was followed by more than 95 per cent of the population.
