An oil refinery explosion in India killed one worker and injured two others on Monday, November 11.

Footage shows a thick plume of smoke billowing from the site.

Authorities said the explosion occurred at an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) refinery in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Police reported that the blast took place at a storage tank within the Koyali facility.

Firefighters, with 10 fire engines, work on-site to extinguish the fire that ignited after the blast.

One employee, who suffered burn injuries, later succumbed to his wounds, while two others are being treated at a private hospital.

IOC said in a statement: 'Today, a fire was reported at around 3:30 pm in a benzene storage tank (1,000 KL capacity) at Gujarat Refinery.

The refinery's emergency response team is actively tackling the situation, with firefighting operations currently underway.

The adjacent water sprinkler system has been activated to contain the fire, and dousing efforts are ongoing. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.'

IOC also stated that its operations have not been affected.
