Big Sur, United States - November 10, 2024 On the morning of November 10, a coordinated helicopter rescue operation unfolded at Barlow Flats Campground along the Pine Ridge Trail. At roughly 8:00 AM, the specialized helicopter H-70 was summoned by Big Sur Fire to assist in extracting a hiker who had suffered a knee injury the previous night, leaving him stranded. The rescue showcased the precision and skill of the H-70 crew and a Big Sur Fire helicopter rescue technician (HRT). Navigating through the dense forest, H-70 had to fly beneath the towering trees, managing its rotor clearance with extreme care. The operation required the helicopter to extend its hoist cable to nearly its full 164-foot length to reach the incapacitated hiker. After successfully hoisting the injured individual, H-70 transported him to the safety of an AMR ambulance waiting at the Post Ranch landing zone, concluding a complex rescue under challenging conditions.
