Crazed local arrested for 'setting three cars on fire during rampage'
Police arrested a suspected arsonist who reportedly set fire to three vehicles in a car park in Thailand.
Panthep, 44, allegedly burned three automobiles during a rampage in Soi Thoet Thai 55 in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 19.
Firefighters received a report at 7:05 am and arrived to extinguish the flames. They said the fire was put out at 7:28 am with no injuries or casualties reported.
A Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Xpander, and Chevrolet Optra were all destroyed in the inferno.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakkaphan Thongsaiporn of the Bang Khun Thian Police Station said an investigation found that Panthep had started the fire.
He said: 'We learned that the suspect was unemployed and spent most of his time playing mobile games. On the day of the incident, he went on a rampage though what caused it is unclear.'
Authorities detained Panthep at his sister's house on October 21. He resisted arrest, prompting officers to use tasers and rubber bullets to subdue him.
He was taken to the Bang Khun Thian Police Station to face legal action.
Under Section 217 of Thailand's Criminal Code, those found guilty of arson may face between six months and seven years in prison, or a fine of 1,000 to 14,000 THB. (22 to 316 GBP)
