A massive reticulated python was caught near a shopping centre in Singapore.

The 13ft snake sparked alarm when it was spotted slithering in the greenery near the Paya Lebar Square mall on November 9.

Footage shows National Parks Board staff dragging the huge serpent from the shrubs using catch poles as a ma in a white shirt and black tie tried to drive onlookers away from the area.

The team hoisted the snake out into the open and found its midsection bulging from its last meal.

The 42lb python was taken to the Mandai Wildlife Group Mandai Wildlife Group for observation.

Veterinarian Charlene Yeong from the Mandai Wildlife Group's Veterinary Healthcare team said: 'We are monitoring the animal's health status closely and to assess if it will naturally pass the food bolus. In the meantime, we are ensuring the python is kept in a calm, controlled environment, with access to water and minimal stress.'

The National Parks Board advised the public to remain calm and call specialists if they encounter a snake in a public area.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
