Students in New Zealand performed the Haka for a girl who was top-of-the-class.

Footage shows the youngsters chanting and stamping their feet while schoolmate Naomi Sai Antiporta received her award on stage in Bay of Plenty on November 9.

The Haka - a tribal dance stretching back to the indigenous population of the country - was started by lads at the front and joined by others who stood from their seats, roaring inside the hall.

During the valedictorian tribute to the girl, they also raised their arms, clenched their fists, and swung them in unison.

Naomi said: 'It is truly a privilege to experience the culture of New Zealanders, especially Haka from Maori culture. I want to acknowledge the people I have met along the way, those who helped and guided me.'

The Haka is a traditional dance or challenge originating from the Maori people of New Zealand. It is characterised by chanting, vigorous movements, and foot stamping, often performed in a group.

Most famously, it is performed by the 'All Blacks' rugby team at the start of matches.
