STORYLINE:
A Latvian trade delegation recently visited Tianmen City in central China's Hubei Province.
Over 20 representatives from Latvia's small and medium-sized enterprises experienced the Chinese tea culture by learning tea-picking, brewing, and tasting under the guidance of local tea experts.
SOUNDBITE (English): KARLIS MILLERS, Delegation member
"It is hard to understand what is good tea and what is bad tea, because I don't have this knowledge. In my country, we pick herbal tea. It's different, you can smell it, you can see the flowers, and it is a different way of picking tea. Nice to be out of the city from out of the hustle and bustle, to be in a rural area and to see more of China. We have a saying in Latvia that 'if you go out of the city, you can learn more about the country.' For sure, I'm more and more knowledgeable (about China). Of course, I would like to stay here for one week and see all the aspects of it. I love it."
Tianmen is the hometown of Tang scholar Lu Yu in the eighth century. He is the author of the book "The Classic of Tea," the first treatise in China to compile knowledge of tea and its related practices.
