This is the heroic moment a helicopter rescued a stranded fisherman over Veteran's Day weekend.

Reports say the 79-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran is currently recovering after a successful medevac by the 129th Rescue Wing of the California Air National Guard on November 8.

The fisherman had been on a chartered fishing trip when he began showing alarming stroke-like symptoms.

Two HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters and an HC-130J Combat King II were dispatched approximately 400 miles off the coast of San Diego to airlift the patient to a San Diego area hospital.

Once the rescue units located the vessel, pararescuemen were hoisted to assess the patient.

During the two-hour flight to the mainland, authorities provided oxygen and monitored the patient's vital signs.

The wing coordinated the mission with U.S. Coast Guard District 11 and the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. It marked the wing's 1,166th save.
