New York, United States - November 12, 2024 Envoys from multiple countries on Tuesday condemned Israel for the humanitarian disasters resulting from its military actions in the Gaza Strip at an open meeting held by the United Nations Security Council on food security in Gaza. During the meeting, UN officials reported that humanitarian access to Gaza has hit an all-time low, especially in northern Gaza, where severe famine is looming. Envoys from various countries condemned Israel for the humanitarian disasters caused by its military actions in Gaza and urged Israel to repeal the law passed by its parliament prohibiting the operations of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) within its borders. A Russian envoy stated that the U.S. protection of Israel has led to the current disastrous situation. Riyad Mansour, the permanent observer of the State of Palestine to the UN, accused Israel of lying about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called on the international community to take actions to safeguard the rights of the Palestinian people. The 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council have proposed a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
