Turtle riding skateboard chases away pet cat
This is the hilarious moment a turtle riding a skateboard chases away a pet cat in Japan.
Footage shows Gunso, a Chinese pond turtle, riding a small wheeled board while chasing Mona, a female Munchkin and short-legged American breed cat adopted in 2020 at around four years old.
The other feline, Koyuki, is a two-year-old female tabby adopted in 2022.
The owner, Kurachi, recalled that in the summer of 2022, she and her husband were walking in Fukuoka when they spotted what looked like a rock on the road. Upon closer inspection, they discovered it was a turtle.
They considered it dangerous to leave it on the road but were unsure how to handle the situation, as there were no nearby ponds or rivers, and they noticed a scratch on its shell.
The duo believed that if they took it to a local health centre, it would only receive brief care and eventually get released, and if handed over to the police, it would be treated as a lost item for three months.
Eventually, they decided to keep the turtle in case the owner came forward. Local police advised against releasing it into a pond due to its status as an invasive species.
The Chinese pond turtle is listed as an 'Endangered' species on the IUCN Red List.
Traditional Japanese beliefs say the tortoise symbolizes longevity, good fortune, and stability.
