Yemen - November 12, 2024 The US Navy has successfully thwarted multiple Houthi attacks on American warships in the Red Sea, marking a significant confrontation that saw F-35C jets conduct their first combat missions. The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels launched a barrage of at least eight drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and three cruise missiles, targeting the USS Stockdale and USS Spruance. Despite Houthi claims of striking the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier with cruise missiles, Pentagon officials denied any such attack on the vessel. However, aircraft from the carrier participated in operations against the rebels. According to Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, the US warships intercepted the missiles and drones, leaving no damage or casualties. In retaliation, the US carried out airstrikes on Houthi weapon facilities in Yemen, targeting advanced weapons used in attacks on both military and civilian vessels. The skirmish followed US airstrikes on Houthi sites in Syria, in response to attacks on US personnel there. Central Command Commander Gen. Michael Eric Kurilla issued a stern warning, emphasizing that the US would continue to defend its personnel and allies against any further aggression.
