A group of fishermen in Boundary Bay inadvertently rescued a seal from a pod of orcas as it hopped onto their boat for a ride.

The filmer said: "I am a commercial fisherman. We were fishing Dungeness crab at the time. We were in Boundary Bay on the Canadian border checking crab pots, when all of a sudden I saw a splash by my crab pot. I yelled at my crew, 'There’s a whale by our crab pot!'

"I shut everything off and at first I started just watching what was going on, and then I started recording. I realised that they were hunting a seal. I was shocked. I didn’t know what was going on. My crew was screaming after I started recording the first video I said hey I need to go live with this for Coast Salish Adventures, my new venture that I’ve been working on, and when I went live, it jumped on my boat and the action started.

"After about 7-8 minutes, we realise that they were juveniles and the parents were about 2,000 to 3,000 feet away and they started swimming towards us so we drove off with the seal, as you can hear in one of my crew men voice, he was real scared. I was hyped up all excited, wild. It was the craziest thing that ever happened to me and I’ve been on the water for the past 18 years."
